After a few months of almost forgetting I had a blog I am back! A lot of interesting events have happened and a lot of new life ventures have came my way. Lets first get back to my previous post of a few months ago in regards to my so called “career fork in the road”. I shall give you the wikipedia or spark note edition to cut to the chase and move on to more current endeavors.
I continued subbing at a local elementary school for almost the entire year last year and got a good reputation of being a good hard worker and believe it or not good with kids ( never thought I would here that ). Then summer came and it was back to work as a catering/bartending maniac as I worked 40 plus hour weekends. I did however continue my job search and got absolutely nowhere. I gave up. I am a smart kid yet no one was giving me any kind of chance but the school system. Therefore I began to consider getting into education.
Another school year started and I was back to coaching soccer and subbing. Soccer went well for the varsity team as we won the southern division championship. On the other hand my JV team was all 7th and 8th graders and we won only one game. Lets skip that and get back to it, so I was subbing again. I started off mainly in the exceptional behavior room everyday. It was challenging because that was more of a one on one setting along with actual classes. It was not bad but that led to possibly the biggest move yet in my so called career path.
ALC or as they call it alternate learning center here at the school. Other schools call it ISS or in school suspension. The women who was head of the program left to work on another assignment at another school. I was asked then to be her fill in until she came back. I agreed because that means id be working everyday and getting money everyday. I did not know how much of a impact working in this position would have on my outlook on life. Its lunch time so ill be back soon !!
Alright blog followers I would like to introduce the most interesting dog in the world my buddy Diesel. He is a golden retriever/ rottweiler mix and hes a beast! He accompanys me on mostly all my travels and is by my side all day everyday. I like to document Diesel and my adventures via Instagram on his own series “The Adventures of a G”. With that being said I am looking to expand the G series and will share his adventures with you all……..prepare yourself world!!!
I graduated college and was slightly nervous to enter the real world seeing I felt like I learned nothing in school. I felt like I wasted thousands. I quickly began looking for internships or jobs anyhwere in the county in any business field. I wanted a internship for grad school sake but my college kind of screwed me but thats another story. So, I had a friend help me type a resume and cover letter while I waited anxiously for any sort of response. Well I will be honest I recieved not one phonecall or interview only automated emails saying the usual hoopla “you have no experience” or “sorry we are continuing our search” It sucked, actually it totally sucked because I did not want to be stuck doing construction work all my life. Until one day.
I was having a blast with a sledge hammer at the old local middle school knocking out a wall. I was carrying some stuff outside where a buddy of mine said ” Hey man you should apply for the soccer coaching job”. My response was something like this ” Maybe” I just wasnt sure . It was time consuming but at the same time I was jobless. So I took the job and became the highschool head JV coach. Then things got even more interesting. I was given the idea to try to substitute teach. HELL NO!!! I thought. First I dont even like kids ( im being honest ) and second of hall I dont like kids. After some thinking I put my views aside and put my name in to some for the district. My first substitute job…….5th grade!!! Teaching!!! I never even thought of being a teacher and here I am teaching or trying to teach or as I call it “babysitting” I wasnt sure how I would like it but I thought id give it a shot…..stay continued
Alright, I feel like I am in a dilema in which most young adults face. What should be my career path? I studied (unfortunatly) sports management in college and thought it was the right thing to pursue. After getting through a few semesters I ultimatly concluded that the major I was putting time into was not the right major for me and a wasteful one. I say wasteful because in the area I live in which is the lovely Berkshire County there is absolutly zero oppurtinity for this field. If there is it is nothing major.
What I really wanted to study at firt was radiology before anything business just to throw that out there. But, seeing how business was what I came to somewhat enjoy I looked for different options. I started to read up and study basic finance and economical principals along with basic accounting. These areas of business really intrigued me and my quest to learn everything possible one the subjects began. My new major was over before it had began due to the fact I would basically start over my undergrad after being one for 3 years already. So i stuck it out and passed with flying colors and graduated!!! Exciting right? But little did I know my entire outlook on my career path would quickly change……..stay tuned
Hello Anyone Reading This!!!
Welcome to my first blog!!! I decided to start a “professional” blog to attempt to gather information and any advice on trying to determine the right career path. It is very difficult for anyone to sit there and think ” well what do I want to do for the rest of my life or atleast for the time being?” It is a very simple worded, yet complex question with no definitive answer. In my case I am somewhat torn between to completely different career choices. My story might be similiar to other post-grad pre-grad school adults, but with a few interesting twists along the way. So with that being said welcome to my blog!!! I hope whoever decides to read this enjoys and shares and idea sparked by my page!! Your ideas might even help
